Marce Petroccio is entering his second year at Trumbull High School after 25 years as the Head Coach at Staples High School with an overall record of 210 wins and 72 losses. Under Coach P’s tutelage Staples won the FCIAC Championship in 1997, 2003, 2009, 2011 and 2012 and won the Class M State Championship in 2002 and the Class L State Championship in 2004 and 2005.
For his excellence in coaching, Petroccio has received numerous awards and accolades. He was named the 2002, 2003, 2009 and 2011 FCIAC Coach of the Year. In 2013 he was named one of the top USA Today's Coach of the Year. In 2004 Petroccio was honored by the New York Giants as the Lou Rettino High School Football Coach of the Year. In 2007, Petroccio was honored by his peers by being named the Coach of the Year by the Connecticut High School Coaches Association.
In 2014 he was inducted into the Connecticut High School Hall of Fame, the FCIAC Hall of Fame, and the Greater Bridgeport Hall of Fame.
Petroccio has also served on the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference Football Committee. Petroccio attended Trumbull High School, where he played tight end and defensive end for the legendary Jerry McDougal, including a perfect 11-0 senior campaign where the team was ranked number one in the state and New England. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education at Southern Connecticut State University where he played for former UConn Head Coach Paul Pasqualoni who also gave him his first opportunity in coaching in 1982 at Western Connecticut State University. After serving as linebackers and defensive backs coach at Western Connecticut Petroccio spent three years as an assistant at Cheshire High School under current Boston College Head Coach Steve Addazio. In 1993 Petroccio assumed the head coaching position at Staples.
Marce resides in Ridgefield with his wife Julie and daughters Gianna and Aleah.
Coach Moore begins his second year coaching at Trumbull High School and 14th overall at the varsity level. He previously served as the Offensive Coordinator at Ridgefield High School from 2014-2017. During the 2016 season, his offense averaged 38 points per game and earned a trip to the Class LL State Championship Game. He has been the position coach for nine All State wide receivers and coached the leading receiver in the state of Connecticut in 2017. His passing offense finished in the top 5 in CT statistically the past two seasons. Many offensive school records were broken during his four years at Ridgefield. Brendan also won a state championship and multiple conference championships at Masuk High School in 2010 as an assistant coach where he coached the wide receivers. Brendan resides in Trumbull with his wife Cari and sons Jackson and Cooper.
Defensive Coordinator / Offensive Line Coach
Jesse McCray enters his second year on the Trumbull High School football staff, coming from Staples High School, where he coached for 25 years under former Head Coach Marce Petroccio. Jesse is a graduate and 3 year varsity letterman in football at Branford High School where he was elected Captain his senior year. Jesse went to Western Connecticut where he played for Paul Pasqualoni, the current defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions. After receiving his B.S. in Social Science, Coach McCray started his coaching career at Danbury High School. During his tenure at Danbury High school the Hatters earned a record of 46-10 and won the 1990 FCIAC Championship and finished as Class LL State Runner ups. He was named the CHSCA Assistant Football Coach of The Year in 2002 after joining the staff at Staples. While at Staples, Jesse's teams appeared in 8 CIAC Finals and 7 FCIAC Championship games, the most in school history. Jesse is also the Head Coach of the Staples Indoor Track team which he led to FCIAC Titles in 2013 and 2015 and State Titles in 2014 and 2015. Coach McCray has received numerous Coach of the Year honors from the Connecticut Post and was named the U.S. Track and Field / Cross Country Connecticut Coach of the Year in 2015. Jesse is a Grade Level Assistant at Staples High School and resides in Spring Glen with his wife Michele and sons Gabriel, and Christopher.
Secondary Coach / Receivers Coach
Coach McFarland enters his second year at Trumbull High School and 30th year coaching football in the FCIAC. He previously coached baseball and football at Fairfield H.S. from 1989-1994 and Staples H.S. from 1994-2017. Jack has coached numerous players who received All League, All Area and All State recognition during his tenure. Coach McFarland has coached in 8 State finals and 7 FCIAC football championships at Staples working under Hall of Fame Coach Marce Petroccio. In 2004 he was selected CHSCA Assistant Football Coach of the year. Coach McFarland is also head coach of the 2017 State Champion baseball program at Staples. Jack resides in Monroe with his wife Norma and 4 daughters: Kelly , Kenzie , Megan and Abby.
Offensive Line Coach / Defensive Line Coach
Chris joins the Trumbull coaching staff as an assistant offensive and defensive line coach and an assistant coach for junior varsity after coaching at Staples in 2017. Chris is a graduate of Quinnipiac University with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy and is employed by Professional Physical Therapy in Darien. Chris also assists with the Trumbull Football strength and conditioning program. Chris played for the Staples Wreckers on the offensive line as center alongside his twin brother Mike and was a member of the 2009 FCIAC championship team. Chris has also coached Westport PAL football teams for 10 years. Chris was also a Staples High School 4 year varsity wrestler and 2 year wrestling captain.
Offensive Line Coach / Defensive Line Coach / Strength and Conditioning Coach
Mike comes to Trumbull after coaching for three years as a member of the Staples High School coaching staff. Mike is a certified personal trainer, certified sports performance coach, and heads the Trumbull Football strength and conditioning program. Mike played for the Staples Wreckers on the offensive and defensive line alongside his twin brother Chris and was a member of the 2009 FCIAC championship team. Mike has also coached Westport PAL football teams for 10 years. Mike was also a Staples High School 4 year varsity wrestler and 2 year wrestling captain. Mike is a graduate of Quinnipiac University with a B.A. degree in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Accounting. Mike is employed by the Town of Westport as Dock Master for the Town’s marinas.
