We are a small town historical association with a nice museum. We collect and showcase items pertaining to Mesopotamia, including Amish items. We have a historical cemetery with hand-crafted monuments by a local stone carver, Howard Brigden. Our organization holds events throughout the year to raise money, from local fish frys, auctions, Christmas events, sales, etc. We have an annual rummage sale over the 4th of July during the ox roast and flea market. We also put on a Memorial Day event to honor our veterans.
Our building dates to 1846 when the Spiritualists formed by Timothy Cox put up a spacious Church building south of the Methodist Church, ensuring their building one foot larger than it's neighboring church. When the seances and spirits no longer interested people, the Universalists took over until their membership dwindled. In 1873 it was sold to the Township for $1000. In the end the Grange took over and now it belongs to the Mesopotamia Memorial and Historical Association. We have a full museum of Mesopotamia artifacts upstairs and use the downstairs for functions. We are located on the east side of Mespo Park at 8788 State Route 534.
The museum can be accessed through a gravel parking lot with a ramp into the building. The second floor is accessible only by stairs. Bathrooms are available but not handicap accessible at this time.
