The Leavittsburg Heritage Association was created by a group of residents to preserve the history of Leavittsburg, OH. The Leavittsburg Heritage Museum is managed by the Association
Leavittsburg was founded in 1803 by John Leavitt from Suffield, Connecticut. Leavittsburg was designated as the market town of Trumbull County, but was replaced by Warren when the latter became the County seat.
In 1839 Leavittsburg became a Canal Town with the Pennsylvania and Ohio running through the center of the town. Later the railroad purchased the canal property and ran their rail lines through town. Leavittsburg became a popular stop on the railroad.
In the early 1900’s the trolley ran from Warren to Leavittsburg. At the end of the line in Leavittsburg the trolley company build an amusement park on the banks of the Mahoning River. Mahoning Park was located across the river from the popular Canoe City (Canoe City is still in existence today.)
The LaBrae Local School District is located in Leavittsburg. LaBrae is a consolidation of Leavittsburg and neighboring Braceville schools.
The museum has on-site parking, is one floor, and has a restroom available.
