TCC Fire Relief

On February 17th at approximately 11AM, there was a fire at Trinity Community Commons, located in the historic Trinity United Methodist Church building at 204 East Trinity Lane. The fire was mostly localized in the beloved Sanctuary, the most historic part of the building. Though we are relieved that no one was in the facility at the time of the fire and no one was injured, the damage to the sanctuary is devastating and we share the sadness and grief of so many in this community.

The fire department believes that the cause of the fire was electrical and that it began in the connecting space between the Chapel and the Sanctuary, underneath the two stained glass windows. We will keep you posted once their investigation is complete and they have issued a final report.

At this time, it is not safe to enter the facility due to smoke and carcinogens. The windows and doors are boarded up and sealed. The power and the water have been cut off. No one other than approved vendors and workers may enter the facility until we have determined that it is safe to turn the power and water back on. We believe this will take several weeks.

It is our aim to keep our weekly Tuesday night Community Meal going using the outdoor area outside the Fellowship Hall entrance on East Trinity Lane. We will announce our plans for the meal on Monday, February 22nd.

Because so many have asked how they can help, we have created a volunteer category on our volunteer sign up page for future volunteer efforts regarding our next steps after this event. We do not expect to need volunteers immediately but we will keep your names and information and contact you as we move forward in consensus with the community and our partners.

We have also created an online donation page where you can donate specifically to our fire relief efforts. All donations received yesterday will be allocated to this fund as well. Community members are also welcome to donate to our general fund as we navigate the process of relocating our regular programs and continuing our work.

Please follow our Facebook and Instagram pages as we will keep these updated with the most current news.

We will share our current collection of photos and video from the fire on our social media over the coming days as well as some historic and recent photos of the space as we all knew it and loved it. We share these with you so that the community may grieve together the loss of this historic space.

We are so thankful to the Nashville Fire Department, our team members, our programming partners, concerned neighbors who came to the site, and the many community members who have reached out to offer their empathy and assistance. We know, with your help, we will restore this space and resume our work in this wonderful community!
