What is RTI?

Response to Intervention (RTI) is a way our school helps make sure every child gets the right support—right when they need it. It’s a team-based process that helps us identify students who may be struggling with learning or behavior and provide them with extra support early on.

Here’s how it works:

• Everyone starts with great teaching. All students get high-quality, research-based instruction in the regular classroom from the start.
  
  

• We check in on progress often. Throughout the year, we use assessments (like benchmark tests and classroom data) to see how students are doing compared to grade-level expectations and their peers.
  
  

• Support comes in different levels. RTI uses a “tiered” approach:
  
  

  • Tier 1: All students get strong instruction in the classroom.
    
    

  • Tier 2: Students who need a little extra help get small group support.
    
    

  • Tier 3: Students who need more intensive support receive individualized instruction.
    
    

• Who provides support? Help may come from classroom teachers, reading or math specialists, interventionists, or special educators—depending on the need.
  
  

• We monitor progress closely. If a child is receiving extra help, we check in often to see how they’re doing and whether we need to adjust their support.
  
  

• Students enter RTI based on data. We use benchmark scores and teacher observations throughout the school year to identify students who might benefit from intervention.
  
  

• Families are part of the team. If your child is receiving support through RTI, we’ll keep you informed about their progress, the goals we’re working toward, and the people helping them. Your input is always welcome!
