What a weekend, my debut weekend as a non rockie in the opening round of JSCC. With minimal winter testing due to budget I went into the weekend with a new car which was the 2021 JSCC 2nd placed car of Harvey Caton hoping for top 10 finishes, What a car!!!
Friday:
Testing with Neil Primrose and weekend support from Jeakins race preparation. With the addition of using Data analysis thanks to Neils bit of kit we could see the car was on pace and with the knowledge of Jeakins Race Preperations the car was totally dialed in and ready to perform.
Saturday:
I knew I was able to qualify well with the pace I found on Friday however I was surprised to see my pitboard displaying P1 early on in the session and eventually P2 only missing out on pole by 0.019 of a second!!
Race one was set to be a close race with less than half a tenth separating the top 3.
After starting on the front row and getting a poor run into turn one i was in third place; and with the huge effects of tow down the hanger straight I was briefly in fifth position but made my way back up to second through Stowe.
The battle for second continued for the next few laps with me eventually dropping back down to third where I stayed until the gearbox decided to pop out of third right before the long hanger straight allowing the small pack behind me to get in the tow and close the gap leaving me vulnerable into the corners that follow. Unfortunately I got pushed a little bit wide and was down to p6. The contact had knocked me out of gear once again, leaving me to far back to improve my position before the end of the race..
Sunday:
After a slightly disappointing result on Saturday losing four places from where I started and a starting position of third today, I was determined to bring home a podium. I didn’t get a great start and ended up in fourth until we got to the back straight where I made move through Stowe to bring myself up to third where I remained in a small breakaway pack of four until the safety car out. After the restart I slowly began to create a small gap between me and the cars behind allowing for uninterrupted battle for second. In the final few laps after I had finally closed the gap last minute battle for second begun. It ended with us both side by side into the final sector on the final lap but I came out in front on the exit of Stowe securing second place and my first ever JSCC podium.
