First time to Donnington, with the trucks which is always fun but this time its with Convoy in the Park so even bigger crowds and live streamed. Lots of fun with the JSCC paddock in our down time exploring the fun fair.
Friday:
After driving the track for the first time this weekend it has quickly become on of my favourite circuits, thanks Mark for instructing me and Jeakins Race Preperations for getting the car ready.
Saturday:
The car felt great in qualifying after Jeakins Race Preperation found a great setup in practice really suiting the fast corners of Donington allowing me to carry great momentum around the circuit. However, without tow I didn’t have the few tenths needed to be further towards the front of the grid in race one but since my laps were consistent I qualified 5th for race two.
Race one: the first lap saw everyone battling for positions, unfortunately during the opening laps a small bit of contact sent me round and to dead last when safety car and then red flags came out for another incident.
I was hopeful that I would be put back to 8th for the restart but Unfortunately I was put on the back row of the grid somewhere near 20th. On the first lap of the restart I made my way up to 9th but another incident brought an end to the race and all points were disallowed with the race being abandoned.
Sunday:
Race two: I started 5th and got a good start taking to the grass to get round the cars in front and I briefly got up to second on the first lap but, due to the nature of the circuit once one car comes through and you lose your momentum you’re an easy target for the cars behind. At one point I dropped down to 8th. Throughout the course of the race I moved up to 5th but despite having the pace I could not progress any higher as Zak Palmer 303 put up a great defence. Third gear still popped out at least 4 times during that race and it cost me crucial exits losing me positions and overtaking opportunities, it also cost me 5th place on the final corner of the race. without it I may have been able to challenge for a podium.
I was later awarded Driver of the meet for the determination but clean racing and progressing through the Grid to get those all important points keeping me 3rd in the championship.
