Before you can activate your service, you need your unique Radio ID (also called an ESN or SID).
Turn on your radio.
Tune to Channel 0.
Your 8-alphanumeric Radio ID will display on the screen. (Note: The letters I, O, S, and F are never used).
Once you have your Radio ID, follow these exact steps to activate your service. Order is critical to ensure the signal reaches your car.
1.Position your vehicle:Crucial for receiving the signal.
Park your car outside with a clear, unobstructed view of the sky. The radio must be turned on.
2.Create or log into your account:
Go to [siriusxm.com/activate](https://siriusxm.com/activate) on your phone or computer. Log in if you have an existing account, or select "Set Up a New Account."
3.Enter your Radio ID and choose a plan:
Input the 8-character ID from Channel 0. If you are activating a trial, follow the prompts for SiriusXM trial activation. Otherwise, select your preferred subscription plan.
4.Send the activation signal:
Once checkout is complete, the website will send a signal to your car. Leave the radio on for 3 to 5 minutes until the channels update and audio begins playing.
If your SiriusXM activation is not working, or you only hear the preview channel, you likely need a signal refresh.
How to refresh: Go to [siriusxm.com/refresh](https://siriusxm.com/refresh), enter your Radio ID or phone number, and click send. Make sure your radio is powered on and your car is outdoors.

Click "Forgot Password" on the login screen.
Enter your account email, phone number, or Radio ID.

The SiriusXM app allows you to stream your subscription anywhere.
Android: Open the Google Play Store, search "SiriusXM," and tap Install.
iPhone (iOS): Open the Apple App Store, search "SiriusXM," and tap Get.
If the SiriusXM app is not working:
Force close the app and reopen it.
Update the app: Check your respective app store for pending updates. Outdated versions frequently cause login and crashing problems.
Clear cache (Android only): Go to Settings > Apps > SiriusXM > Storage > Clear Cache.
Reinstall: Delete the app completely and reinstall it to clear corrupted data.
If SiriusXM is not streaming or stops unexpectedly, the issue is almost always network-related or device-based.
Buffering problems & Audio quality: Lower your streaming quality. Open the SiriusXM app settings, tap Application Settings, and change Audio Quality to "Normal."
Streaming stops unexpectedly: Check your device's battery-saving settings. Many phones aggressively put background apps to sleep, which will cut off your SiriusXM audio. Whitelist the app in your battery settings.
Device compatibility: Ensure your phone or tablet is running the latest OS. Devices older than 4-5 years may no longer support the app's security protocols.
If you are seeing "No Signal" or find SiriusXM channels missing:
Obstructions: The antenna requires a direct line of sight to the satellites. Garages, tunnels, heavy tree cover, and tall buildings will block the signal.
Only preview channel available: Your radio has lost its authorization. You need to refresh the signal (see Section 1).
Radio not refreshing: If a web refresh fails, check the physical antenna connection on the back of your car's radio unit to ensure it hasn't vibrated loose.
To move your service from an old car to a new one:
Log into your account.
Select Replace Radio/Transfer Service.
Enter the Radio ID of the new vehicle. Note: A small transfer fee usually applies.
You can use the SiriusXM app on most modern smart TVs.
Roku & Fire TV: Search for the SiriusXM app in the channel store.
Samsung & Android TV: Download the app from the built-in app store.
SiriusXM TV Activation Code Setup:
When you open the TV app, it will display a code.
Leave the code on your TV screen.
On your phone or computer, go to [siriusxm.com/tv](https://siriusxm.com/tv).
Log in and enter the activation code to link your TV.
Bring satellite radio to your smart speakers by linking your accounts.
Amazon Echo (Alexa): Open the Alexa App > More > Settings > Music & Podcasts > Link New Service. Select SiriusXM, log in, and say, "Alexa, play SiriusXM Hits 1."
Google Home: Open the Google Home app > Settings > Music. Select SiriusXM and enter your credentials.
Connection Issues: If your speaker says the account is unavailable, open the Alexa or Google Home app, unlink the SiriusXM skill, and re-link it to refresh the authentication token.
If you bought a plug-and-play aftermarket SiriusXM radio (like the Onyx Plus):
Mounting: Use the provided vent or dash mount. Ensure it does not block airbags or your driving view.
Antenna Setup: The magnetic antenna must be placed on the outside of the vehicle, ideally on the roof. Do not place it on the dashboard; glass blocks the satellite signal. Route the wire through the weather stripping around your doors.
When you run into an error, you want a solution fast without reading through a lengthy manual. Here are the most searched SiriusXM errors and the exact line-by-line steps to fix them:
SiriusXM login error: If the system rejects your credentials, wait exactly 15 minutes if your account is locked due to multiple attempts, then use the [siriusxm.com/forgot](https://siriusxm.com/forgot) portal to reset your password. Remember that if your username is not an email address, it is case-sensitive.
SiriusXM activation error: If your car radio won't activate, ensure the vehicle is parked outside with a clear, unobstructed view of the sky. Turn the radio on, tune it to the preview channel (Channel 1 or 184), and go to [siriusxm.com/refresh](https://siriusxm.com/refresh) to send a new activation signal.
SiriusXM app not working: If the app crashes or refuses to load, force close it immediately. Check your device's app store for pending updates, and if it still fails, clear the app cache (on Android) or delete and reinstall the app completely (on iPhone) to clear corrupted data.
SiriusXM account unavailable: If the main website says your account is unavailable when you try to log in, you likely purchased a streaming-only plan through a third party (like Apple, Google Play, or Roku). You must manage your billing and subscription directly through that third-party platform's settings, not the SiriusXM website.
SiriusXM streaming unavailable: This usually points to a network connection drop, aggressive battery-saving settings, or VPN interference. Turn off any active VPNs on your device, switch from Wi-Fi to cellular data to test the connection, and ensure your device isn't putting the app to sleep in the background.
SiriusXM password reset problems: If you request a reset link and don't receive the email, check your spam/junk folder. If it still doesn't arrive, you may be using an email address that isn't linked to your active car. Go back to the recovery portal and choose the option to recover your account using your 8-character Radio ID instead of your email.
SiriusXM connection issues: If your car radio constantly displays "No Signal" or "Acquiring Signal" even when parked outside, it is a hardware issue. Check that the physical antenna wire is securely plugged into the back of the radio dock and verify that the external antenna on your roof is not physically damaged or pinched in a door jamb.
