Juneteenth is a federal holiday that commemorated the emancipation of African American slaves. It is also a day set aside to recognize and celebrate African American culture. President Biden signed the bill into law which made Juneteenth a federal holiday.
Juneteenth also marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galvaston, Texas to take over the state and make sure all slaves were freed. This occurred two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. This holiday is considered the longest-running African American holiday.
