Flag Day

In 1916 President Woodrow Wilson made June 14th Flag Day. Flag Day commemorates the first approved design of the American flag in 1777. The first Flag Day was celebrated by teacher Bernard Cigrand. He suggested it be celebrated on June 14th of each year. Cigrand conducted the first flag day celebration with his class of students. He was a firm believer that the flag should be honored and respected.
