Deaf History Month is celebrated from March 13th-April 15th. This is a time to recognize the contributions of the deaf and hard of hearing community. It also celebrates those who have been advocates for the deaf and hard of hearing. The goal is also to raise awareness of the deaf community.
This month-long celebration began as "Deaf Awareness Week”. It was moved to a longer celebration in 1997 upon the suggestion of the National Association for the Deaf in 1996.
