Arbor Day is a day to celebrate and encourage the planting and preservation of trees. It is celebrated on the last Friday in the month of April. Arbor Day dates back to the 1870s in Nebraska City, Nebraska. Julius Morton was a newspaper editor and used the paper as a way to spread his message of the importance of trees and their importance in ecology.
On January 7, 1872, Morton proposed setting aside a day to encourage all Nebraskans to plant trees. The proposal was accepted and the first Arbor was celebrated that April. This celebration was a huge success and has expanded to Arbor Day celebrations across the world.
