Flipgrid is a simple, free, and accessible video discussion experience for PreK to PhD educators, learners and families. Thanks to Microsoft, all educators have the premium version of the program! Teachers can create Groups (formerly Grids) that can be content specific or classroom specific. In a Group there are Topics (lessons) that teachers create to solicit information from students. Teachers start with a title, and the add a prompt or information about the topic that students need to know. At that point they add media (record a video inside Flipgrid, upload a previous video from your computer, add a video from Vimeo or YouTube, image, Giphy, emoji, Google document, Kahoot, Wakelet, Newsela article, Adobe Spark or other media. It can be private or public and teachers set whether students access this from their student email or by using a code. Google Classroom integration was added as of December 21, 2020. Videos can be viewed and commented on by other students or teachers can turn that off so only he/she sees student submissions. Flipgrid allows students to create responses by recording a video, which is great for all kinds of content areas. Students can also take a picture of a math assignment and then record the steps it took to solve the problem.

Flipgrid has also recently added integrations and app smashing! Integrations are currently available for Canvas, Wakelet, Newsela, Seesaw, Book Creator, websites, and more.

Flipgrid is a program that is accessed through the website - www.flipgrid.com and students and staff log in with their district Google credentials.

Flip Just Got Better—New Features and Fun Ways to Use Flip

We’re excited to share our simpler, faster web experience that’s filled with feature updates you've been asking for. Take a look!

Updated Web Experience – The Flip camera, your videos, and your groups and topics are now a click away, making it easier than ever to create and share in Flip.

Edit Captions – You can now watch videos and edit the captions side by side. Members can also safely edit captions with automatic moderation.

A Unified View for Leads and Members – With this feature, leads and members have the same simple view, each customized to their roles, and you’ll always know what the ‘student view’ looks like on Flip, so you can confidently answer their questions.

Ability to Archive Groups – Get a clearer view of your most active groups with our new archive function.

Custom Group Links – Customize your group link (which doubles as your join code) to make it more memorable and easy to share.

Immersive Video Playback – Playback is bigger and more engaging, with videos at the center of the experience along with topic prompts and descriptions—no more back and forth to see them. PLUS, you can now edit captions side-by-side; a feature you’ve been asking for.

Personalize Flip with Dark Mode – Flip users can now use dark mode for their screens, which will reduce blue-light exposure and can help eliminate eye strain.

Search Across Your Groups, Topics, and Videos – Want to find that topic your students loved last year? You'll be able to search across all your groups and topics. (Coming in January 2023.)

More Ways to Express Yourself with the Flip Camera

The all-new Flip camera brings your effects and tools to the forefront. Camera effects are easier to find and toggle between, and the simpler, more modern design makes telling your story and expressing your ideas a seamless experience. 

Create Mode – You don't always have to be on camera to share your ideas! Create Mode allows you to tell a story through visuals by using photos, text, and stickers. You can also use Create Mode to combine video with title cards or transitions.

Video Backdrops – Last year, we introduced the ability to add video backdrops to your videos. Now, you have a whole new library of fun videos to choose from, right in the camera.

ASL Learning Lens – This lens teaches the basics of American Sign Language (ASL), tracking your hand movements as you learn each letter of the alphabet. It's the first in a series of Learning Lenses we're building to help you and your students learn new things with the help of the Flip camera.

Audio Visualizations – Audio Mode on mobile now has the option to add audio visualizations, with cool soundwave visuals that track your voice as you record. 

Lenses on Web – You've told us how much you love lenses on mobile, and we love seeing the creativity they inspire. You can now use lenses on Flip web in addition to the Flip mobile app!
