Week Twelve
Year Six Weekly Update
Monday 19th November - Friday 23rd November
Review (This week)
English : This week we have been revisiting report writing. We have nearly finished our Renaissance unit in our Topic lessons, and have decided to complete a non-fiction report on what we've learnt.
Maths : Our hard work in learning all about and understanding fractions continues. We have been multiplying and dividing fractions by whole numbers and have progressed onto using this new skill in a variety of reasoning and problem solving activities.
Topic : We've been studying the correct way affluent and important Renaissance figures would have behaved in the 1500s and 1600s. A key part of this has been understanding how courtiers tried to climb the social ladders during the era.
Preview (Next week)
English : As well as continuing our focused reading sessions, where we are working really hard to improve our retrieval skills in texts, we will start our new topic. We be unpicking a variety of texts and drawing our attention to the reading and writing skills, and particularly the language used, to make writing successful.
Maths : We will be moving onto learning all about decimals and how we can successfully use them in progressively harder calculations.
Science : We will begin a focused few weeks learning all about food chains, multilayered food webs and how energy is transferred from one organism to another.
Homework :
Children should be reading every day and having their Reading Record signed. I have noticed a massive difference in children's reading abilities lately - thank you for all the hard work and keep it up!
The children will be tested on these eight words during our spelling test on Thursday: dictionary, disastrous, embarrass, environment, equipment, equipped, especially, exaggerate
The children have been sent home with their Science workbook. Please complete page 16 . It is all about mountain habitats - something we will be covering this week in school and the next. The children may need to undertake some research to help with their learning!
Notices:
Thank you for all of your help ensuring the children had a brilliant Loy Kratong celebration at school - I know everyone had lots of fun!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Kind regards,
Harry Cairns
