Week Eight

Year Four Weekly Update

Monday Oct 16th - Friday Oct 20th

This week we have been reviewing our learning from the last half term.

Review (This week)

English :  Writing and presenting persuasive texts to get people around school to think carefully about their impact on the environment.

Maths : Review of targets set. We have assessed the progress that we have made with place value and calculating. The class are much better at comparing and ordering numbers on a number line and using the column method for addition and subtraction. Most pupils need more practice with rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000 and finding the inverse calculation.

Science : Review of vocabulary learnt over the half term. Posters for the school environment. Researching unanswered questions about the topic.

Speaking and Listening with Year 3:

Preview (Next week)

English :    Escape to Pompeii! How stories are put together.

Maths :  Multiplication and division using the grid method and chunking on a number line.

Topic: The Romans! Who were the Romans? Introduction to the topic and homework share.

Sharing our persuasive posters and writing around the school.

On a treasure hunt to find our topic vocabulary in the garden!

Homework :

To find out about our next topic 'The Romans'. After half term break you will be expected to share something that you found out. It could be a fact, a book that you have, an artifact, a piece of clothing, a recipe for some food, a picture for our display, a model of a building...you can be as creative as you like!

We have started a weekly 'Times Table Challenge'. Please keep on practicing your times tables at home using TT Rockstars!

Word Mania!

Notices: Please encourage your child to read daily over half term, even if only for 10 minutes, and write in their Reading Records.
