Week Two
Year Five Weekly Update
Monday 14th January - Friday 18th January
Review (This week)
English : In English this week, Year 5 were given their ten weekly spellings: (Green: colours, Blue & Orange: review of past half-term activity, Purple & Red: -ness suffix words) In addition, they read Chapter 5 of King Arthur and the Round Table. We did not complete an extended writing this week as we have been preparing very hard for our class assembly!
Maths : This week Year 5 continued to focus on fractions: comparing 2 fractions at a time and working out which is smaller and larger by multiplying and dividing the numerators and denominators as well as putting a list of fractions in order. They worked very hard and both Maths classes showed they could find equivalent fractions using times or divide.
Topic : Students continued to work on their performance for their assembly this week "King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table."
Preview (Next week)
English : In English, Year 5 will continue with their understanding of different clauses (subordinate, relative and embedded) and write a letter as King Arthur to his beloved Merlin, who has sadly died in this weeks chapter of our class text: King Arthur and the knights of the Round Table.
Maths : Next week, Year 5 will continue to compare fractions and will focus on finding fractions of amounts, also including money.
Topic : Year 5 will complete their last Science experiment from their Properties of Materials topic in Term 1. We will then assess their understanding of the whole topic through a short quiz and introduce our new topic for the whole of Term 2...Plants!
Homework :
TTRockstars - 1 hour per week (times tables are very important so please practise!).
English - students have 2 pieces from their English homework books. (Page 22 and page 46)
Maths - Activity is maths workbook based on multiples (Pages 108 - 109).
Daily 30 minutes reading.
Notices: We would really appreciate if you could make sure that when your child reads at home, whether independently or to someone, that a parent or guardian signs the Reading Records.
Year 5 have worked extremely hard on their King Arthur Assembly the last two weeks: learning their lines and performing them like they were back in Medieval Europe. We hope you enjoyed our performance and thank you coming to show your support!
