Year Five Weekly Update

Monday 8th January - Friday 11th January

Review (This week) 

English :  Year 5 have been given their ten weekly spellings (Green: animal words, Blue & Orange: statutory words, Purple & Red: -ity suffix words) to learn for their test on Monday. 

We read Chapter 4: Morgan La Faye of our class text, King Arthur and the Round Table, answering different types of reading questions.

Maths : Year 5 have begun working on fractions this week, identifying what a fraction is and learning key vocabulary, such as numerator and denominator, working out what fraction of a shape is shaded and looking at equivalent fractions finding the simplest form.

Topic : Year 5 have been working on their assembly "King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table."

Preview (Next week) 

English : In English, Year 5 will be given their ten weekly spellings: (Green: colours, Blue & Orange: review of past half-term activity, Purple & Red: -ness suffix words) In addition, they will read Chapter 5 of King Arthur and the Round Table, writing a letter as Merlin. 

Maths : Next week, Year 5 will continue to focus on fractions: comparing them through working out which is smaller and larger by multiplying and dividing the numerators and denominators as well as finding fractions of amounts.

Topic : Students will continue to work on their performance for their assembly "King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table."

Homework : 

Notices: We would really appreciate if you could make sure that when your child reads at home, whether independently or to someone, that a parent or guardian signs the Reading Records.

We would like to invite you to come our first year group assembly of the year, "King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table" on Friday 18th January 2019.

Year 5 have had a great start back: focusing on their work; working well as a team and introducing two new class members to 5H: Henry and Arthur.
