Week Four

Year Five Weekly Update

Monday 28th January - Friday 1st February

Review (This week)

English : This week Year 5 learnt about different homophones (same sound) in spellings. Also, they also wrote a recount of Hermes and Apollo (Red & Purple tables) and Hades  (Orange & Blue tables).

Maths :  In Maths this week, Year 5 continued to look at fractions. Our focus was multiplying and dividing fractions and changing improper fractions into mixed number fractions and back again.

Topic: This week in Topic, Year 5 learned about how women lived within Europe during the Middle Ages. They also found out about some important people such as Charles the Great (Charlemange), William the Conquorer and Eleanor of Aquitaine.

Preview (Next week)

English :  Next week, Year 5 will write a story about their own mythical creature or legend using special vocabulary and figurative language.

Maths: In maths next week, Year 5 will be consolidating everything they have learnt over this half term on fractions. They will be using both proper, improper and mixed number fractions to answer calculations involving these covering all four methods.

Science:  In Science next week, Year 5 will begin the different parts of flowering plants and explain their jobs using a range of house flowering plants.

Topic: Next week, Year 5 will learn about how the time known as the Middle Ages ended, focusing on the black death.

Homework :

Notices: We would really appreciate if you could make sure that when your child reads at home, whether independently or to someone, that a parent or guardian signs the Reading Records.

Year 5 have really been showing great independence and positivity in their reading level books, using the school library on their own, keeping a list of books they have read and writing about they like about the book and why.

Monday the 11th of February Mrs Edell and Mr Hill will be taking 14 Secondary students to the Boonchoo Foundation for Children with Special Needs to lead a fun, inclusive sports activity and build contact between the students of both schools.

Mr Hill visited there last June and it was clear the school are in desperate need of basic things for the children and our Primary School Council have decided it would be a great idea if we could all collect:

-Old toys our students don't need or use anymore.

-Old clothes that aren't used or do not fit anymore.

-Thai/English books that they have read or don't want anymore.

If there is anything you could kindly donate there will be three big baskets outside the Primary building for the three different items with clear labels this Monday.
