Year Five Weekly Update

Monday 3rd September - Friday 7th September 

Review (This week) 

English :  Year 5 have continued with their fantastically funny book called Giant Jim and the Hurricane by Jeremy Strong. This week they have worked on instructional writing on "How to wash your hands." and "How to brush you teeth." focusing on using imperative verbs and interesting adverbs E.g. mix carefully.

Maths : This week year 5 focused on rounding numbers. They progressed quickly through the week focusing on whole numbers and extending to rounding decimal numbers. In addition they have been revising their times tables and mental maths.

Topic : In geography year 5 have continued to focus on the 7 continents and the 5 oceans creating their own maps to show the equator line and have discussed the northern, southern, eastern and western hemispheres.


Preview (Next week) 

English : Stories from another culture. In addition our spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPAG) lessons work will be based on types of sentences (commands, statements and questions).

Maths : Addition and subtraction including decimals, mental maths and solving puzzles.

Topic : Mountains, including mountain ranges and classifying mountains.  


Homework : 

Notices: Congratulations to Lucas (Vulcan), Fleur (Pegasus) and Emily E (Amazon) for becoming the new vice house captains for primary and well done to everyone that put themselves forward and gave a fantastic speech.

Please ensure your child brings in their PE and swimming kits on the correct days. Timetables can be found in their reading records.
