Week One

Topic Webs for term 1

For our first week we have got to know the students very well and they have made an excellent start! They have been very well-behaved, well-mannered and positive towards their lessons.

Maths:

Year 5 have studied place value up to seven digits this week, showing their understanding of the value of each column from units all the way up to millions! They have also learnt the vocabulary of more than and less than to work out if they should subtract or add. Finally in Maths, we have ordered numbers up to seven digits from smallest to largest and largest to smallest.

English:

Year 5 have begun their English with a fantastically funny book called Giant Jim and the Hurricane by Jeremy Strong. So far we have written a description of Jim's appearance and personality using adjectives. E.g. huge, friendly or positive. Also, Year 5 have learnt the basic terms of verbs, nouns and adjectives. (Please test them at home!)

Science:

Our first exciting Sciene topic in Year 5 is Animals Including Humans. So far the students learnt the difference between asexual (1 parent) animals, sexual (2 parents) and animals that are asexual and sexual. The students also learnt the six stages of development (Ask your child if they can remember!)

Other:

Year 5 have briefly tested their knowledge of naming the continents of the world (South America, North America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australasia, Antarctica).

In Thai lessons some of the children have been learning conversational Thai and how to write their names, whilst others have been learning a song for Wai Kru
