Year Five Weekly Update

Monday 30th April - Friday 4th May

Review (This week) 

English : This week Year 5 moved onto Chapter 3 and 4 of Tua And The Elephant, in which Tua meets the elephant for the first time. They wrote a conversation between the two main characters, a diary entry as Tua and then a story extension for Chapter 4.                             

Maths : Year 5 revised their long division using the chunking method and long multiplication using the column method. Also, they revised conversions of time, weight, height/length and volume in mental maths. Finally, they practised their rounding to the nearest 10, 100, 1000, 10000 and 100000.                               

Science : Year 5 learned about refraction, the changing of the direction of light in water. They carried out a scientific experiment to do this using straws, water and cups.

Preview (Next week) 

English : We will continue Chapter 5 of Tua And The Elephant and write stories and diary entries around it.

Maths : In Maths next week Year 5 will identify equivalent fractions and find the simplest form using division. They will also revise ordering numbers up to ten million using their knowledge of place value and round decimals to whole numbers.

Science : Next week in lesson 4 of their Light Science topic, Year 5 will learn about how light appears to travel in straight lines and explore prisms and make color wheels.

Our Year 5 assembly will be on the 11th May (Next Friday). We will perform poems and review our Year 5 School Trip.
