Week Eight

Year Five Weekly Update

Monday 5th March - Friday  9th March

Review (This week)

English : This week Year 5 completed a huge range of writing pieces! We began by writing our very first newspaper article about how the Iron Man defeated the Space-Bat-Angel. In addition, they then wrote a character description of the beast followed by a letter from the Iron Man explaining how the world needs to change. Finally! Year 5 write a recount of the Iron Man in 5 exciting paragraphs. I am proud of all of them for their fantastic focus and effort.

Maths : This week Year 5 began their week with rounding to the nearest tenth. They remembered to look at the place value and round the number in the next column or less value. In addition, they revised their 4x1 and 2x2 multiplication using the column method.

Science : It was a fun Science experiment this week, identifying the effect of mixing coke and coke light with mentos sweets. (Please see the pictures below). The kids worked hard and so did some parents!

Preview (Next week)

English : Next week Year 5 will be focusing on writing in the correct tense (past, present or future). They will look at different examples of texts and identify past, present and future tense verbs to help them do this. In addition, this will read the first chapter our new class text.

Maths : In Maths Year 5 will start the week with multiplication word problems, followed by short and long division. In mental arithmetic they will look at dividing fractions, ordering fractions and finding fractions of amounts.
