Week Fifteen

Year Five Weekly Update

Monday 4th December - Friday 8th December

Review (This week)

English : This week Year 5 wrote the final draft of their persuasive letter. They included persuasive language, powerful adjectives to express emotions and wrote in paragraphs beautifully. They also looked at how to use different types of sentence starters.

Maths : In Maths we learnt about what numbers are divisible by 2, 5, 10 and 100. The students remembered the different rules very well, e.g. any number that ends in 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 is divisible by 2.

Science : This week Year 5 completed their charts which recorded the growth of their yard bean plants.

Preview (Next week)

English : Next week we will start our planning for writing a recount of the chapter 'The White Prince'. This is an exciting chapter of our story and they will need to order the events correctly and include interesting punctuation and vocabulary.

Maths : Next week we will learn how to use rounding in context with division word problems. This can be a difficult concept at first so they will need to work as a team to help their understanding so that they can round appropriately. In addition they will complete their final Maths assessment on Tuesday to see the progress they have made.

Science : Next week Year 5 will complete an assessment to see their individual understanding about Plants this term.

Homework :

-One piece from the homework grid. (In for next Friday)

-10 spellings. (Test next Friday)

-Daily reading (at least 30 minutes - please make sure all children take home their dictionary and write down any word they don't understand in their reading records).

-Maths Challenge! This week is a review from the last term. (Children only need to complete what they can.)

-English SPAG questions. (Completed for Monday)
