Year 1 - 8

Year 7 – 8 Term 2 Trip

Our focus throughout Term Two will be ‘Our Heritage - Local Land Wars’.

In Week Nine, on Thursday, 27th June all students and teachers will visit Opotaka and Te Porere to discuss the history of these areas.

We will be taking a local expert with us, who will be able to explain the events that took place. We will then have lunch at Whakapapa Village and complete our day by walking the Taranaki Falls track.

We will be leaving school at 9am and returning to school by no later than 4pm. The postponement date, if the weather is not suitable, will be Week Ten, Tuesday 2nd July.

Room 5 Pataka Challenge

In Room 5, we have an Inquiry into Matariki and making links between the past and present.
For 2 weeks, the tamariki have had a Pataka Challenge, in which after a series of discussions and investigating they came up with the designs and structure.
They were also asked to name their Pataka Kai as well. A huge thank you to our parents, whanau, Aunties and Uncles and even our Koro and Nannies who helped our tamariki become successful at doing this.
Take a look at our mahi we have done, we are so proud of all their mahi they have done. It was worth the meltdowns and frustrations. Hard work produces successful outcomes
Reading for pleasure unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are.
Here’s what you can do to help children develop stronger reading skills and a love for reading:
Set the example. Let children see you read.Have a collection of books in your home.Update this collection routinely to keep up with changing tastes and reading skills.
Support our school’s Book Fair.Allow your children to choose their own books to read. Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings the books kids want to read right into our school. It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Please make plans to visit our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child’s reading habits.
Book Fair dates: Wednesday 19th – Friday 5th July (may open in holidays please organize with me)Shopping hours: 8.30-4pm We look forward to seeing you and your family at our Book Fair! Remember, all purchases benefit our school.
