Welcome to the Dyslexia and Testing Departments!

My name is Dr. Ashley L. Schlafly, and I am proud to serve as the Academic Specialist at Creekside Park Junior High. I have the pleasure of wearing two hats on campus overseeing both the dyslexia and testing departments.

In my first role, I have the awesome opportunity to serve our community of students with dyslexia alongside our Reading Lab teacher! In the latter, I operate as the campus testing coordinator and work with our amazing faculty and administration to administer the many tests our students work on throughout the year!

When I'm not at school, I am spending time with my amazing husband, Tom, and our two children, Finnegan (Finn) and Eliana (Ellie).

Meet Dr. Schlafly!

What is Dyslexia?

Dyslexia is a learning disorder that involves difficulty with reading. It is neurological in origin, and, while it can't be "cured," with consistent intervention and instructional support, students are able to grow and achieve in all subject areas!

Some fast facts about dyslexia include:

  • People with dyslexia have normal intelligence and usually have normal vision.

  • It does not just affect students in their English Language Arts classrooms.

  • Dyslexia can affect handwriting.

  • People with dyslexia are often incredibly creative!

  • Dyslexia is hereditary. In fact, if a parent is an individual with dyslexia, the child has a 50% chance of also being dyslexic.

  • 1 in 5 people have dyslexia.

  • Dyslexia is NOT a disease.

Please contact me if you have questions about our dyslexia program or how dyslexia evaluations take place!
