Project SEARCH is a business-led, one-year internship program for young people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Project SEARCH was developed at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, which is still the administrative headquarters for the organization. This Project SEARCH program occurs on-site at Dublin Methodist Hospital.
Most participants are enrolled while transitioning from high school to work. The hallmark of Project SEARCH is total workplace immersion, which facilitates a seamless combination of classroom instruction, career exploration, and hands-on training leading to acquisition of marketable work skills. Project SEARCH's goal is to secure competitive, integrated employment for every program participant.
Each potential intern applies to the program and a selection committee notifies potential interns of their acceptance. All interns must be eligible for services with the Ohio Rehabilitation Services Commission to participate (Voc. Rehab through OOD).
Managers at Dublin Methodist Hospital collaborate with the Project SEARCH Instructor and Skills Trainers to support the interns in their work experience. Interns also participate in monthly progress meetings to define their career goals and plan necessary steps to achieve that goal.
