BAckground
He started his career in the land of H.323 and ISDN working at Avaya communications where he helped to add video to the Avaya Communication Manager PBX. Toby was in charge of building and running a video interoperability lab and working with partners like Polycom, Tandberg, Radvision and Codian. While at Avaya Toby also helped to build the original Avaya Video Tablet MVP and led the customisation of the 96xx SIP phones for the hospitality vertical including design and system integration.
After a brief stint building a test team for a web development company Toby moved back into the world of real time communications by joining Acme Packet, the company that literally coined the term Session Border Controller. Toby started out looking after the Australian and New Zealand markets, working predominantly with Service Providers like Telstra, Optus, Internode, iiNet, AAPT, Vodafone New Zealand, Telecom New Zealand, Chorus & more. He helped them to build, grow and secure their VoIP solutions working with all manner of other vendors including Broadsoft, Cisco, Ericsson, Nokia, Alcatel-Lucent, Nortel, Avaya, Huawei. After several years he was managing all of consulting engineers in Southern APAC.
Shortly after Acme Packet was acquired by Oracle Toby was selected to lead a new Enterprise focused team of consulting engineers spanning the entire APAC region. This role included building out the team as well as leading all multinational engagements across the region and developing the Australian market. This role focussed on the use or Oracle Communications equipment in corporate and small business networks with a particular focus on ensuring that multivendor, large scale contact centres operated efficiently and securely. Toby's work covered working with all major Contact Centre vendors including Avaya, Genesys, Interactive Intelligence, Cisco, Nice, Verint, Microsoft and others. Toby was also actively involved in developing the product roadmap and future product strategy including driving the virtualised Session Border Controller offering for cloud and hosted solutions providers including Vodafone and Dimension Data.
Toby hired staff across the region including in South East Asia, Japan and Australia. He led the business development efforts across the region including establishing and growing partner relationships in Australia, New Zealand, China, South Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia &Thailand. Partners that Toby worked closely with include Dimension Data, Telstra, Optus, Avaya and Wisespot. During this time he also participated in and led marketing events and conferences through out the region.
