Description

This 2021 Spring semester in Film class I worked with After Effects for the first time. I completed a series of small projects to learn about and use the tools in After Effects which are shown in my portfolio below.

Dancing_City_Final (Converted).mov

Dancing City

This was my first project inside of after effects and the first time I had ever used the program. In this project I began to get familiar with after effects and its tools. We also learned about displacement in this project in order to make the buildings look like they were dancing which I can use in various ways going forward.

Displacement Project

This was the second project I did in after effects where we used the displacement technique we learned in the previous project to create something with out own media. This project gave me a change to further explore using displacement and I learned a lot about layers when I tried to make the video seem more 3 dimensional by placing objects behind the rows of buildings.

Tracking_Train_vid (Converted).mov

First Tracking Project

This was my first introduction to tracking. It was a very simple project where we had to track some text and a video of fire to a train as the camera flew over head. I used what I learned in this project in the next two projects to further explore what I could do with tracking.

Hotwheel_Race2 (Converted).mov

Tracking Hot Wheels

Here I used tracking to sync the cars and other objects to the moving hot wheel car that I filmed to make it look like they were racing. This was just a chance to further explore and get familiar with tracking but I had some trouble making the tracker follow the car the whole time so I had to also experimented with the positioning of the car using time stamps .

llama_tracking (Converted).mov

Guided Tracking

In this project we learned how to manually correct the motion tracker to make it follow the object we want the whole time.

SPOON2final (Converted).mov

Mocha Spoon Masking

We learned how to mask out a moving object using Mocha in this project. I used this to mask out a spoon so I could add smoke behind it.

Raindrops.mov

Rain Drop Effect

With this project we learned about using a variety of tools to make an image look like it had raindrops dripping down it. Other than programs like mocha, this was my first time really using the effects in after effects and seeing the things you could create with them.

Final_Apple+music.mov

Freestyle Apple Project

In this free style project we combined the techniques we learned in the previous projects to create a surreal world. I used Mocha to make masks to place the apples behind my hands and stuff, and I used tracking to track the apples to my hands, as well as other things I learned over the course of this semester.
