Zachary Porter TMCC Math

Welcome!

Hi all, and welcome!  I hope we can work together to have a successful semester!

About Me

My name is Zachary Porter and I am a Temporary Community College Instructor at Truckee Meadows Community College.  I was born in Las Vegas and did my schooling at UNR, where I earned a BA in Math and a BA in Art, and then UNLV, where I earned a MS in Math with a Teaching Concentration.  I have always loved math, and I started teaching college-level math in 2008 as a graduate student.  I have taught math full-time for the last 10 years, with a goal of showing students the beauty of math as well as the greatness that can occur with effort.

In my free time, and when my knees were good, I played a lot of tennis and basketball.  I enjoy any racket sport, but lately I have been playing a lot of pickleball (left: pic of me getting silver in a tournament at the Plaza Hotel -- I blame my partner for us not getting gold...just kidding!).  I also enjoy hiking, biking, skiing, disc golfing, and trips to Lake Tahoe with my wife and dog.

Other than outdoor activities, I like to read, play games, draw, paint, and watch mostly comedies (or my wife's favorite Christmas Rom-Coms that she will play anytime of the year)  -- my favorite movies are Old School, Three Amigos!, Dumb and Dumber, and Minority Report.
