This activity was a lot of fun! Jackson blew his feather the farthest....41 inches!!

We also participated in centers: build with 100 legos, build with 100 cups, use a hundreds chart to track how many licks it takes to dissolve a lollipop, paint 100 "gumballs" on a circle, and put the numbers 1-100 in proper order. We finished our day with a Starburst scavenger hunt!
Happy Groundhog Day!! (February 2nd)

We also made candy cane ornaments and hand print mints. The highlight of our day was when we were able to play with peppermint scented play dough (with red glitter of course!)!
We also began our week long candy cane science unit. Today, we investigated whether or not a candy cane sinks or floats.

We wrapped up this activity by performing a pumpkin seed taste test and completing a tally chart and bar graph with our class results of whether or not we liked the seeds. It was a tie! Five friends liked them and friends did not like them.

However, this will change on Monday September 23. Students requesting a drink, other than milk, will be charged for it.
In Social Studies, we have been discussing American Symbols. We have already learned about the Bald Eagle and the Liberty Bell. Please make sure that you are checking the back of your child's HW binder for papers that are coming home. These papers may stay at home. Homework will always be sent home in the front of the binder and should also be returned in the front. Thank you!
Wishing everyone a wonderful Labor Day weekend!!
Our First Day of School Rocked!!
It was so nice to see everyone last night! I hope that I was able to answer some of your questions.
Here are a few notes that I wanted to make sure I communicated clearly:
I will be emailing everyone the slideshow of "The ABC's of Kindergarten"
Dismissal for kindergarten will be at 2:40 pm at the SCHOOL ENTRANCE (steps).
All students need to bring a towel or a small blanket for rest time/SSR. Please remember that these items will be going in their cubbies and must be able to fit in a small space.
HW for the first week will be name practice. It will all be sent home on Monday for the week.
We will begin the school year by using Crayola Pipsqueaks markers for all of our written work. By the end of September, we will transition to golf pencils with erasers. Finally, in November, we will transition to the standard #2 writing pencil. This progression really helps fine tune your child's fine motor skills. Feel free to pick up a pack of Pipsqueaks markers to use at home for homework. If you would rather use a pencil, that is perfectly fine as well.
Students will be using their clear plastic shoe box as a "safe box". This box will be kept at home to house games, manipulatives, and important things that your child may need for homework. We will decorate the box on the first day of school and send it home with some goodies (laminated name puzzle (Monday HW), laminated name and bag of pasta (Tuesday HW)). These items may remain in the "safe box" and do not need to be returned to school. Weekly family games that are a part of the HW packet can also be stored in this box for safe keeping. Please find a spot where your child can access it easily. Encourage continual use of the materials and please add items from home.
