News & Notes

Parents: Ms. Garner is offering music lessons for third graders who are going into fourth grade next year. If you are interested in having your child take lessons over the summer, please contact her.

We will be having our Kid's Heart Challenge (formerly known as the Jump Rope for Heart Event) this coming May 3-14. This is an event in which we

raise money for the American Heart Association. Funds go towards helping kids with heart problems, research and to help make communities healthier.

Our school will also earn money for P.E. Equipment and your child can earn fun thank you gifts. Please see the attachments for those gifts.

In the students' P.E. classes, they will do activities that will create healthy hearts. Most of the activities are jumping activities such as

jumping for height and distance, through a coordination ladder, and using a trampoline, etc.

There will not be an envelope provided for donations this year. Instead, register online at heart.org/khc. Type in "Trinity Lutheran School". A search will be given.

Click the school associated with Joppa, MD and Team leader, Bonnie Schnell. Donations can be made more accurately and quickly using this method.

However, donations can be made in cash or check. Checks are to be made out to the AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION.

Please, place donation monies in an envelope labelled "Kids Heart Challenge" and give to their classroom teacher.

Teachers will know to give the envelope to me to receive their prizes.

Some prizes will be given immediately and some will need to be ordered. An example of an ordered item would be the T-shirt.

In the past 22 years that I have run this program, almost $200,000 have been collected to help those with heart disease. We have made tremendous progress

in this area of keeping our loved ones living longing and understanding the importance of having and keeping a healthy heart.

Please join Trinity, again this year, to further help this worthy cause.

Thank you, in advance, for your generosity

Blessings always,

Bonnie Schnell

1/25/21: We're virtual until February 2. What a blessing that our class has made it halfway through the school year without having to go completely virtual. That has changed today, but thankfully, it is only through Feb. 1. We will, Lord-willing, return to "in person" instruction on Tuesday, Feb. 2.

All students should be online by no later than 8: 40am. Morning work is posted on Seesaw at 8:00am, and should be completed prior to 8:40am. It will be much different seeing all 15 children on a laptop screen compared to our wonderful 43 inch screen at school.

Please be sure that your child has all of his/her school supplies accessible, has a quiet place for learning, remains on camera during the day except for announced breaks, and is in school uniform.

Please refer to the "Home Page" for some Christmas opportunities sponsored by Trinity Lutheran School.

Advent wreathes were sent home last week, courtesy of Trinity Lutheran Church. Your family is encouraged to use the wreath as you prepare for Christmas. Advent begins on Sunday, November 29, this year.

Please find the information that was sent home last Friday with "in person" learners. Virtual learners may access it below.

ADVENT CHAINS: "In person" learners brought home an Advent chain last Friday. Virtual learners had the opportunity to make a chain at home. Each day, beginning on November 30, one link from the bottom of the chain should be removed. The scripture verse that is on that link should be found in an NIV Bible (the same one your child uses for class). Within the verse, there is a name for Jesus. Using the "Matching" sheet (sent home with "in person" learners on Friday, available on Seesaw for virtual learners), the Bible passage and the name for Jesus should be matched according to the directions on the page. THIS IS AN ONGOING ASSIGNMENT THROUGHOUT DECEMBER, AND WILL BE COLLECTED ON JANUARY 4, 2021. Please do not turn it in prior to December 26.

PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES: Please be sure to sign up for a conference time via Sign-up Genius. Conferences will be held on Monday, November 2, and Tuesday, November 3.

VIRTUAL BOOK FAIR: 10/13 - 10/23

Trinity families are invited and encouraged to participate in our Virtual Book Fair through Scholastic. There are many books from which to choose!

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD PROJECT

Our classroom will be packing two boxes - one for a 5-9 year old boy and one for a 5-9 year old girl. Students are encouraged to bring suggested items (often available at the Dollar Store or Five Below) to school any day (or days!) between now and November 10. Even a contribution of one item will help to fill our classroom boxes. We are blessed beyond measure, so please join me in encouraging our third graders to share with those who are less fortunate.

We also have a jar for collecting money toward the shipping costs. Already, several children with big hearts have said they'd like to bring their banks to empty into our jar! (I did tell them to talk with their parents first.) We can take loose change or bills, and they may be brought to school any day.

VIRTUAL LEARNERS: If you'd like to contribute to our class boxes, you are welcome to drop off items/money at the school office. Please specifically designate and label your contributions "OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD - MRS. GAST'S CLASS" so that they are directed to our classroom.

Please find specific information below regarding this worthy project. May God bless you in your giving.

OCTOBER HAS ARRIVED!

Our new devotional prayer for the month of October is the Apostles' Creed - a statement of faith

Home learners may print this out so that they may join us in prayer each day following our devotional time.

The Apostles' Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

October's Lunchtime Prayer

(The Johnny Appleseed Song)

Oh, the Lord is good to me, and so I thank the Lord, for giving me the things I need, the sun and the rain and the apple seed. The Lord's been good to me. Amen. (repeated 6 times)

Our end of day blessing... (sung)

Go now in peace, Go now in peace, May the love of God surround you everywhere, everywhere you may go.

(This beautiful song is sung in a round and can be heard on the youtube video below.)

WE'VE MADE IT THROUGH THE FIRST WEEK!

It has been a busy, long week, but God has been so good. We are beginning to settle in to our new routines, expectations, and grade level. I am so happy to have your children in my class, and will be even happier when those who are learning virtually return to the classroom "in person".

Thank you for your patience, support, and prayers. Technology can be both a blessing and a curse. We've experienced a few glitches, but thankfully, Mr. & Mrs. Smith have come to the rescue!

Next week, we will begin using our textbooks as well as some of our online resources.

I have made a slight change to our classroom schedule (Thursdays) because our art time was switched to a new time.

Have a safe, sunshiny, and blessed holiday weekend!

9/19: Our daily schedule has changed yet again! You will find the most recent changes on the new schedule posted above.

Our devotional prayer for September:

Luther's Morning Prayer

I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.

Our September Lunchtime Prayer

(sung to the tune of "Rockin' Round the Clock Tonight")

God is great and God is good, and we thank Him for our food. We're gonna' thank Him in the morning, noon, and night, We're gonna' thank our God 'cause He's out of sight. Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen. (You may snap your fingers after each "Amen"!

Dismissal Prayer for September:

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.
