Information About Senate Bill 1697

September 7, 2021

Dear Texas Leadership Family and Friends:

As we enter the 2021-2022 school year, we want to bring Senate Bill 1697 to your attention, which was recently passed by the 87th Texas Legislature. This bill gives parents the ability to decide if they would like a child to repeat a course or an entire grade level based on their child’s particular circumstances.

This consideration is of particular significance to those families who had an eligible kindergartener for the 2020-2021 school year, but did not enroll them, or believe their child’s kindergarten experience was not sufficient. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has offered this helpful resource for those parents who may be considering Restarting Kindergarten.

Senate Bill 1697 also creates an avenue for families with older children, who believe their child would benefit from repeating an entire grade level or a single course. Please refer to TEA’s guidance on Repeating a Grade/Course.

These decisions must be made as soon as possible, and families must inform your campus principal in writing by September 14, 2021. This ensures that we will be able to properly discuss with each student’s family whether the student should be retained in a grade or repeat a course. We may need to convene a Retention Committee including the following individuals:

  • The Principal (or designee),

  • The student’s parent or guardian,

  • The teacher who taught the grade or course for which the parent wants the student to retake or be retained,

  • And any additional teachers (at the discretion of the Principal, if the student will repeat multiple courses).

Finally, for students in grade 4 and above, this retention option exists only for the 2021-2022 school year. For students from Pre-Kindergarten through grade 3, the retention option is permanent.

It is our intent to collaborate and work with families who have these concerns, so we can ensure their children receive the best education possible, especially in light of the disruptions caused by the COVID-19. You will find more information on Senate Bill 1697 at Senate Bill 1697 FAQ.

Please feel free to reach out to your campus principal or Shakeah Hoffman ( should you have any further questions about this process.

Thank you,

Shakeah Hoffman

COVID-19 Temporary Arlington Closure

Dear Parents and Staff of Trinity Leadership at Arlington,

The numbers of staff and students negatively impacted by COVID-19 at our Arlington campus has reached a level that we will, out of an abundance of caution for the health of our students and staff, be closing the entire Arlington campus on Thursday, September 2nd and Friday, September 3rd, so that our custodial staff can give a deep cleaning to the entire campus. We believe that the deep cleaning, and keeping students and staff out of close contact for the next five days, will make a difference. We will resume normal campus operations on Tuesday, September 7th.

Please note that this only affects the Arlington campus. Those students who bus from the Arlington campus to the Cedar Hill campus are expected to attend school on Thursday and Friday this week.

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) Opens Secure Portal For Parents & Guardians To Access Their Students’ STAAR Results

We are excited to announce a secure portal for parents and guardians to access their students’ 2020-2021 STAAR results, courtesy of the Texas Education Agency (TEA).

This year’s STAAR results will help families, schools and teachers understand how disruptions to instruction impacted student learning. These results, along with report card grades, are only meant to be a tool to help families and teachers better identify learning gaps and support student learning.

Families can access detailed information about their child’s performance and resources by logging into

We have also provided the below documents to assist families with login.

If you have any questions, we encourage you to reach out to District Administration by emailing

Families with students who attended Texas Leadership of Arlington during the 2020-2021 school year will need to re-register your student for the upcoming school year by Friday, July 9th. You will receive an email on Friday, June 25th. This electronic packet will be sent to the email address you provided to us when you enrolled your student for the 2020-2021 school year.

This ONLY applies to students who attended at Texas Leadership of Arlington during the 2020-2021 School Year.

It must be completed online by ‪July 9th to ensure your student’s name will be on a class roster and/or that they will receive a schedule. Without this completed packet, your student will not be registered at TRINITY Leadership for the 2021-2022 School Year. The process is VERY quick and easy. You will continue to receive email notifications until it has been completed.

Cedar Hill Families (whether new or former) can disregard this RE-registration. We don’t want to create any confusion.

Please email (after June 26th) if you did NOT receive the registration email.

Don't forget to check your spam/junk e-mail folder!

We are looking forward to an AMAZING school year and can't wait to see our students back in the Fall!

Introducing the Trinity Leadership Drumline: Invitation to Join, Rehearsals and Camp Schedules

Dear Trinity Family,

My name is Mr. Sager, and I am the director of the Trinity Leadership Public School Drumline at the Cedar Hill campus. It is my pleasure to welcome students and their families into the Trinity community and to extend the invitation for students to join this exciting program.

Drumline is a performing arts ensemble and student development organization that is focused on the Percussive Arts. During the fall season our program focuses on participating and encouraging school spirit at football games, parades and other school and community events. During the late winter and spring our attention turns to indoor drumline competitions through the WGI/NTCA Concert Percussion division. Students may participate in either the fall, spring or both seasons.

Students at any level of experience are invited to join the program. Experienced percussionists and those with a background with other instruments will feel quite at home, and those with a piano background are especially welcome.

Summer practices for the varsity program have begun to prepare for the 2021-2022 season. Students in 7th grade and up are eligible to participate. Small groups and individual lessons will continue until July, culminating in two weeks of mandatory camp for all participants. IT IS VITAL that anyone wishing to participate in the program make contact with Mr. Sager ( ASAP to start the process.

If you have any questions or need additional information, please do not hesitate to reach out.
