In the early 20th Century, numerous European intellectuals prophesied that religion was a foolish superstition that would be replaced by science and secular/atheistic thinking.
The rise of Fascist and Communist governments, the successes of science in Capitalist societies, the horrors of the Great Wars and the decline of organised religion were all read as signs that religion and God were dead, if not dying.
This unit will enquire into the nature of these arguments and whether or not their predictions have turned out to be the case, or should be the case, and why.
You will do so by employing critical thinking skills and determine if these arguments suffer from fallacies
