Virtual Session I 12:00 - 2:00 PM Central

Opening Community Engagement Keynote

12:00 PM – 1:00 PM

Sarah Davis, MNM, Associate Director, Rocky Mountain Public Health Training Center

What drives people to engage – or not – in a community effort? How can activists and community leaders facilitate engagement and remove barriers? Sarah Davis, Associate Director of the Rocky Mountain Public Health Training Center, will lead a critical reflection activity to help us tune our dials to radio station “W.I.I. FM” as we consider how to tap into motivators for engagement. The tools and strategies shared by Sarah will be complemented by a personal story with first-hand experience of organizing in a rural community.

Session 1 Public Health 3.0

1:00 PM – 2:00 PM

Sandra Melstad, PhD, MPH, Consultant, SLM Consulting, LLC

Public health is built on a foundation of science, focused on protecting and improving the health of people and their communities. Recent global demands on public health and growing inequities require a new approach to public health practice. The Public Health 3.0 model provides a framework for strengthening public health that adapts to the changing public health landscape, including engaging multiple sectors and community partners to generate collective impact and improve social determinants of health. This session will provide an overview of the Public Health 3.0 model, discuss how the model has been used in practice, as well as describe opportunities to apply the model to current public health practice.
