Course title: Chemistry
Coarse Description: In Chemistry, students conduct laboratory and field investigations, use scientific methods during investigations, and make informed decisions using critical thinking and scientific problem solving. Students in Chemistry study a variety of topics that include: matter, atomic structure, bonding, molecular structure & properties, phase changes, acids & bases, energy, thermodynamics, oxidation-reduction, reversible reactions, and chemical equilibrium.
Online Text: Living by Chemistry: Instructions includes online text, videos, virtual labs, and printables, such as study sheets. This program allows real-time individualized coaching and feedback to students.
Units Covered:
First Semester:
· Laboratory safety
· Chapter 1: Defining Matter
· Chapter 2: Basic Building Materials
· Chapter 3: A World of Particles
Second Semester:
· Chapter 4: Moving Electrons
· Chapter 5: Building with Matter
· Chapter 6: Speaking of Molecules
· Chapter 7: Building Molecules
Grading:
· Homework 60%
o Homework assignments will be done online with a start date and a due date. Assignments must be completed before the due date. The program will not allow any answers after the due date. I will extend the due date if a student is absence when this assignment is due. See makeup and late work below for more detail information.
o Labs
o Class assignments
· Tests 40%
Makeup work:
· Work assigned prior to student’s absence will be due when the student returns.
· Work assigned during a student’s absence will be due on a date agreed upon by the teacher and the student.
· Planned absences require the student to inform the teacher in advance and develop a plan for
completing all work to be missed.
· Missed tests and quizzes will be made up on the date of return unless otherwise coordinated with the teacher.
Late Work:
· A student absent for any reason should make up specific assignments missed and/or complete additional in depth study assigned by the teacher in accordance with the guidelines specified in item 4 below. A student who does not make up assigned work within the time allotted by the teacher may receive a grade of zero for the assignment.
1. Missed work/tests must be made up for student absences.
2. Students are responsible for making arrangements for completion of missed
work/tests.
3. Missed work/tests may be scheduled before, after, or during the school day. The
teacher shall determine the "best" time to complete missed work/tests.
4. The allotted time will be as follows:
a. One day absence one day to makeup
b. Two day absences two days to makeup
c. Three or more day absences three days to makeup
5. Students present on the day an assignment is made will be required to complete the
assignment (including tests) on the day the student returns to school. (This includes
semester exams).
Classroom Rules:
1. Restroom and water break should be done during the passing period between classes.
2. Arrive on time.
3. Go to book shelf to get your binder or out of your backpack before sitting at your lab table.
4. School dress code will be checked daily.
5. All personal communication devices: cell phones, smartwatches, tablets, and laptops as well as any other
electronic device that can be used for telecommunication or digital communication must be turned off and
placed in your backpack. Airphones/Headphones are not allowed to be seen or used during school
instructional hours.

Course Title: Anatomy and Physiology
Course Description: The course is taught as a lecture and lab combination. This course is designed to provide an opportunity to investigate the human body, its structure, function and how the human body reacts to external stimuli throughout everyday life. In addition, the course is designed to help the student gain a broad understanding of both anatomy and physiology of the human body. The student can anticipate that he/she will be examining models, dissecting animals/organs, and using microscope to look at tissue slides.

The Human Body: An Orientation The Endocrine System
Cells and Tissues The Circulatory System
Second Six Weeks Fifth Six Weeks
Integumentary System and Body Membranes The Respiratory System
