A: In the early stages people produce a lot of cortisol, while people in the later stages tend to deplete their levels of cortisol. So, I'm glad that you're getting help now. If you have high cortisol, you can follow the Alternate Adrenal Support Supplement Guide in the portal under the Supplements tab. You're going to eliminate the Rootcology Adrenal Support because it contains licorice, and licorice can help boost cortisol levels in the morning.
Another option would be to replace the Rootcology Adrenal Support with Pure Encapsulations Daily Stress Formula. This formula has an adaptogenic blend that won’t raise your cortisol levels.
Something you can do to bring down your cortisol levels would be working out in the morning if it helps you feel better. Some types of exercise help lower your cortisol levels throughout the day. That can be one helpful measure. Also, taking Saccharomyces boulardii at bedtime and in the morning can be very helpful because high cortisol in the morning tends to be common in the early stages of gut infections as well. That is because gut infections, especially those caused by parasites, are more ramped up at night, and that can cause high cortisol in the morning.
If you're working with a naturopathic doctor, you could talk to them about maybe something to help with lowering cortisol levels as long as they're testing your levels. So, sometimes they might utilize something like a phosphatidylserine to lower your cortisol a little bit in the morning. I don't typically like to make a blanket statement about that, because I know some people that are stressed will just take it, and it may lower their cortisol too much. So, I would encourage you to work with your naturopathic doctor on figuring out the right levels of things that can potentially lower cortisol in the morning.
