We have created a series of questions that you may have about your son/daughters transition into Streetly Academy. We will continue to answer questions over the summer and update this section to support all families in the transition process.
Q. What uniform do we need and where can we get it from?
A. We have two main providers, Clive Marks and Uniform Plus. Each provider will be able to guide you to the full uniform requirements when placing orders. For full uniform details, including correct footwear and acceptable hairstyles please see the full list on the website under the parents tab, school uniform section. If you click on the Clive Marks or Uniform Plus link on the website it will take you directly to the Streetly Academy section of the shops.

Q. What does the PE kit consist of and where can I purchase it?
A. From September 2021 our PE kit will begin a phased change, starting with our new intake of Year 7, and any new PE kit ordered for older students may be purchased from our new suppliers Liss Sport. Liss Sport will offer an attractive PE kit package offer, ordered online via their Streetly Academy PE kit page: https://www.lisssport.co.uk/StreetlyAcademy and delivered to home. Please allow for delivery time when ordering kit so that it hopefully arrives in time for the start of term.
Our PE kit now and in September should entail:

Black Football socks
Black Streetly Fleece or new ‘Park 20 Crew Top’ - (No hoodies or alternate jackets.)

Q. What if my child is ill or injured and can’t take part in PE?
A. We understand that due to injury or illness parents may at times prefer their child not take part in their PE lesson. We do however request that, in addition to a note expressing this request, students still bring and change into their PE kit for their lesson. Students will then still be involved in the learning taking place in the lesson as either a coach, official etc. where appropriate and not on the periphery of the lesson in uniform.
Q. What extracurricular activities take place and what time until?
A. Extra curricular PE clubs take place every lunchtime and evening afterschool until 4.30pm. The activities will rotate throughout the year to ensure all activities covered within the curriculum can be developed further within our school teams and clubs.
Q. Will students be taking part in Dance?
A. Dance is planned to be a unit within the PE curriculum for 2021/22 for Year 7 & 8 students.
Q. Chromebook FAQs
Chromebook purchase and deposit sign up will be available once you receive your Year 6 Pack around July 2022. They will continue to be available in September but we highly recommend purchasing one as soon as your pack arrives. We will be looking to distribute the new chromebooks as soon as we can in September.
If you purchase a chromebook as opposed to loan one then you will be guaranteed a new device. They are all the same specifications but we use different specifications for the purchased chromebooks to the school owned loaned ones. This is only cosmetic differences but it allows us to readily distinguish between devices.
The payment of chromebook devices is done through your Scopay account which must be set up, details will be including in the Year 6 Pack. Any issues please contact the finance department: finance@thestreetlyacademy.co.uk
When students do receive their chromebook it comes with chromebook pre-installed and they will just need to log in with their Streetly account. They will also receive a case at the same time which is loaned by the school in order to help them protect their device.
If your device breaks then your son/daughter will be required to take the device to the IT department who will help and provide guidance and advice on what needs to be done. This may include sending off to the insurance company for repair.
Q. What happens if my child is ill at Streetly?
A. If your child is feeling ill in school they should tell the teacher. The teacher can then send your son/daughter to the school nurse for an assessment. If possible we will want to keep your child in school as attendance is vital. The nurse can administer paracetamol (you will receive and consent form for this). If your child is deemed too poorly to stay in school then you will be contacted to collect them.
Q. What do I do if my child is absent and can’t come into Streetly?
A. Please contact school as early as you can to leave a message on the absence line (Mrs H Morris)
Q. What happens at lunchtime and how do I pay for lunch?
A. At lunchtime students can eat in the dining hall, get take away food from the Wrap Shack or bring their own packed lunch. There is a rota of which year groups go in at which time. Take away food can be taken to the Year 7 social space where only Year 7 are allowed. In this space students can sit with friends, use chromebooks and sensibly socialise. There are also Life Curriculum activities everyday where students can get involved in lots of different activities. Mr Drury (Deputy Head) and Mr Downie (Headteacher) will be in the dining hall every lunchtime. You will receive in your welcome packs all the information for online payment.
Q. Will the residential take place this year?
A. The residential will take place in May. It will be based around a resilience camp with all activities covered (rock climbing, zip wires, sailing)

A. Ms C Albutt - c.albutt@thestreetlyacademy.co.uk

Q. How can I prepare my child for secondary school?
A. Moving to secondary school can be a daunting time for both children and their parents. One of the key ways to prepare your child for transition is to develop their independence skills. This includes encouraging them to gather and pack their own equipment ready for school or other activities, managing time and money, looking after their belongings and development of strategies to use if something goes wrong.
Q. Will my child have a locker or do they carry everything around with them all day?
A. Your child will be provided a locker in the first week of school. This will be based in their social space. Coats should be placed in lockers on arrival to school as they are not to be worn around the buildings.
Q. How do I keep track of what extra curricular provision is available?
A. The life curriculum weekly activities sheet will be available in September. When your son/daughter switches their chromebook on each day the activities that are available will pop up. An example of the activity sheet is available on the student FAQs area.
