LET'S BRING BACK THE BISON WITH ONIYA!!!!

The Serious Type was the fiscal sponsor for the ONIYA BISON REWILDING PROJECT in 2023 & 2024.

The giving to Oniya’s adobe house gathering place and ‘epicenter’ for GrandMother Earth’s Bison restoration, thanks to all of you, has garnered nearly $73,000 in donations since June 2024! Payments have been made to Samy of Double S Stone in Alamosa for partially covering all the extraordinary work by his crew. Samy and his wife Susy have believed in this sacred project from the beginning. Together with master builder Gilbert Vigil, there were five guys standing on the roof in 10 degree, 40 mile per hour blowing wind and snow putting on the metal roof and flashing the skylights and chimneys! They’ve built bathroom and bedroom walls and put up the first layer of stucco on both the inside and outside of the house. All built in the Winter time! 

Wayne Leyva adobe expert and designer/builder of our Anasazi fireplace and a small ‘Popcorn’ adobe fireplace in the bedroom received his funds and when we complete his contract for five star adobe work, he’ll start tiling the bathrooms, kitchen, and complete stone work around the fireplace. Wayne who is part Apache and grew up with Indigenous family and friends in New Mexico loves this project as does everyone who works on behalf of healing this precious ecosystem in our rewinding vision and mission.

We’ve partially paid for electrical work to Mike Canty of Canty Electrical as his crew who have ‘roughed in’ the electric and…drumroll… we are close to having the well water pump hooked up to house water and a working sink and toilet in the next week or so! And we even got our local building suppliers partially paid - Alamosa Building Supply and La Jara Trading post - the later who has kept us in propane for months now!

Living in the Airstream all winter and spring has truly forged a strength in me I didn’t know I had to be the General Contractor overseeing Oniya’s construction. And I’m not going to lie. When Anders Carlson, Claire DeLarbre and Oriana Moebius moved me into my bedroom at Oniya a couple months ago while it was still snowing and blowing outside, I cried with gratitude. 

And speaking of gratitude, the massive commitment of Pam Rosenthal to ‘Bison Up’ and get this GoFundMe launched, along with Nikki Beinstein and her generosity to have her 501c3 The Serious Type partner with Oniya bringing financial wizardry and expertise has brought enormous support and structure to Oniya.  

Because of all of you, our Herd is getting Stronger and our Vision Manifesting!
