GET READY FOR SUMMER! - PRE K Activity Recommendations: 

1. Active Learning Experiences: 

-Check with your local department of parks and recreation about camps and other activities. Find out what exhibits, events, or concerts are happening in your area over the summer. 

-Watch a Garden Grow: Check out https://kidsgardening.org/ for lots of great ideas and resources. 

2. Build Literacy, Math, And Science Skills Into Everyday Activities: 

-Play a board game and read directions out loud/point out letters in the game/have the child count the spaces using his/her finger to stay on track. 

-Helping with meals by writing up a grocery list (let them hold the list), finding things in the grocery store, and reading and counting the ingredients outloud to your child when preparing the meal. 

-Make Cool Things: Find loads of activities at https://www.startwithabook.org/ Just choose from one of 24 topics (art, music, dinosaurs, bugs, detectives, flight, sports, stars, planets and the night sky … and more) and start exploring.

-READ, READ and READ:  Have your child predict what the story will be about from looking at the illustrations on the cover. While reading the story, talk about what would come next, and explain vocabulary words. Ask follow up questions about characters and storyline to improve comprehension.

-Technology: check out ABC Mouse and KhanAcademy Kids for fun games and activities that will enhance your child's math and literacy skills. Both applications are free and easy to set up.
