Meeting the Future Workforce Needs of Phoenix
Meeting the Future Workforce Needs of Phoenix
The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) serves as the federal legislation that governs the ARIZONA@WORK system, aiming to integrate services that facilitate the advancement of businesses and job seekers through strategic collaborations across various sectors seamlessly. WIOA aims to address the multifaceted needs of customers, encompassing access to employment, education, training, and a range of support services.
WIOA requires each Local Workforce Development Board, in partnership with the appropriate chief local elected official (CEO), to develop and submit a comprehensive four-year local plan to the Workforce Arizona Council (the Council) (20 CFR 679.560). Additionally, local plans must be modified at the end of the first two-year period of the four-year local plan to reflect changes in labor.
Local Area Plan Update: 2024-2028
The ARIZONA@WORK City of Phoenix Business and Workforce Development Board, in partnership with the City of Phoenix Mayor and City Council, is pleased to announce that it is updating the current Local Workforce Development Plan for the years 2024 through 2028, as required for designated Local Workforce Development Areas under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). This plan outlines strategies for workforce programs serving adults, youth, and dislocated workers, focusing on enhancing employment opportunities, supporting local businesses, and fostering economic growth in alignment with national and state workforce goals.
The update requires a Public Comment phase of at least 10 days and no more than 30 days, which allows Greater Phoenix residents, employers, employees, and jobseekers to share feedback, comments, and suggestions before submitting the updates for final approval. The Public Comment Phase for the Local Plan Update begins on Wednesday, October 14, 2026 and concludes on Sunday, October 25, 2026.
Public participation is crucial to ensuring that our plan reflects the needs and priorities of our community. We invite all residents, business owners, and stakeholders to review the plan and provide feedback, comments, feedback, and suggestions that could shape workforce efforts, programs, and resources for the next two years.
