During the Autumn term we started our new topic on Geometry. We learnt all about shapes and found that there are 4 different types of triangles. We also learnt all about lines of symmetry and different angles.

In year 4 we will be doing a timestable test to fidn out what we know about our table facts, because of this we are practising our tables daily so that we are getting faster at recalling them.

During Literacy this half term we have looked at lots of different skills so that we become better writers. The text we are looking at is called 'The Spiderwick Chronicles,' the story is amzing with lots of detail and is exciting.

We have also looked at narrative and how to write a a persuasive letter. We have also practised our handwriting focusing on how to hold a pencil to making marks first before moving onto horizontal and diagonal joins. We can see an improvement in our writing already.

In reading comprehension we have looked at the skills of skimming and scanning as well as understanding what it means to text mark effectively. We can now use lots of text marking techniques to help us understand the text better.

This has been a really interesting topic, we found out lots of facts about electricity and how circuits could be wired up. We have been leanring about conductors and insulators and how they can help us stop getting a shock.

We are now able to use our skills of building circuits with designing and building a torch in DT.

In DT we started looking at how to make a torch. We first started with our draft plans and then we moved on to looking at who our audience was and their age. Next we made changes to our designs and created our second drafts.

We are now goiing to be movign onto making he torch and continue the process of evaluating and modifying.

During the first part of Autumn 1 we looked at a programme called Sketch Book. Sketch Book it a drawing and painting app, our focus was using the layers tool in order to create a picture. Layers allowed us to draw on top of our original designs without damging the layer beneath it. In this way we can try adding new elelments without the worry of drawing over the original.

PE this half term has been brilliant, we are learning how to exercise using kick boxing and boxing. We have learnt lots of differnet ways of punching kicking and moving. Each week we build on our routine so that we are exercising different parts of bodies.

To help build up our strength we are doing circuits, this means lots of repetition. This includes running, skipping and squatting.

Our focus this term has been Worship in a Hindu home. We have learnt all about the contents of a puja tray and what it means to pray at home. We have learnt a little bit about what Hindus believe in and why they have a temple in their homes. Luckily we have two people in the class whi we can ask as they are Hindus.
