Title: EQUALITY OVER IDENTITY
"Between Shadows and Light; The Struggle for Equality"
In this painting, there is a depiction of a transgender along with a representation of a homosexual couple in the womb of a mother. This showcases how although all of us birth from the same place, some are discriminated against in society. The hand on top of the belly has a black handprint on it, highlighting how the same hands that care for them and feed them, deem them as "evil" when their identities are put forth. There is also a depiction of a vast number of eyes, showing the judgement that society subjects them to.Â
Although there is a negative aspect to the painting, every shadow has its light. Out of the many eyes that judge this community, there is one pair of eyes that is concerned and worried for them. Out of the many spectators that are present, one-person cares for them and sees them beyond their gender or their sexuality. Similarly, the hand below the belly is supporting it, showing how, although many people may not accept them, there are also some parts of the society that cherish them and support them.
Regardless of our race, gender, orientation, caste or creed, at the end of the day, we are all human. And we deserve to be treated as such.
