Title: “MUST I EVOLVE?”
"My freedom to live is my cage."
I exist today, free to live as I wish... As long as I live.
This painting talks about the whimsical thought of possible freedom beyond the constraining realities of nature, science and time.
Every factor which one cannot control, yet is affected by, is represented by the larger head. The inevitable linearity of evolution,
affected by the lives and choices of our ancestors, is what decides the state in which we come to existence, or if we do at all.
We have no say in it. I have freedom in my form, but not from my form.
I have the freedom to do what I will in the era where I exist, but not to decide what era I exist in, or if I exist at all.
The extent to which my ancestors "open their mouth", is the only extent to which I can grow, represented by the smaller head within the larger one's mouth.
The multiple faces represent all the different factors that come together to create the world that we are planted in.
This painting shows the fact of life, that is we cannot attain freedom that lies beyond our potentiality.
And the question remains- Is my true freedom pure abstract?
