Who we are
The LGBTQ Center's purpose is to see a community where every individual is valued, respected, and empowered.
We are proud to offer our resource guide of affirming and accepting vendors, businesses, and social services. The LGBTQ Center offers diversity training, Lifeskills (a research-validated substance abuse prevention program), social groups, and more. We're always looking for new ways to empower our community and to educate.
The LGBTQ Center has come a long way from its humble beginnings. It started off as a little book store with a coffee bar in August of 2004. After fielding dozens of emails and phone calls a week from people looking for welcoming businesses, lawyers, doctors, and churches the little bookstore decided it needed a change. In October of 2005, Another Bookstore became The GLBT Resource Center of Michiana. The newly named organization with it's 501(c)3 status began to showcase local artists, hold a largely attended youth group, and offer a more comprehensive list of resources to the community. In 2016, the organization decided it was time for a face lift. So volunteers gathered after a massive fundraising effort to repaint, add an accessible bathroom, and create a more functional office space. This new look of the physical space coincided with another re-branding to our current name The LGBTQ Center on April 28th, 2016.
