Kicking Things Off
Let’s be humble and honest with each other by sharing a time that your pride or stubbornness got you into trouble.
Getting Into It
Read Galatians 5:2
Paul has some blunt words for the Galatians here. What is Paul’s concern for those Galatians that “accept circumcision” and why?
The Judaizers were intent on clinging to their traditions instead of clinging only to Christ for their salvation. Why was this such a struggle for them?
Read Galatians 5:3-4
What does Paul mean when he addresses the ones who would be “justified by the law”?
Paul is making the case that justification by works doesn’t work! Why? What have been Paul’s reasons for rejecting the Judaizers’ legalism throughout the letter to the Galatians?
The root of legalism (and antinomianism) is ultimately pride. What do you find yourself being prideful about?
Why is it so important that we become aware of the pride in our hearts and repent of it? How do we become more aware when our hearts are becoming prideful?
Read Galatians 5:5-6.
What is the “hope of righteousness” we are eagerly waiting for?
How does our faith “work through love” as we do the works that God has prepared for us? (Eph.2:8-10)
The Parting Shot
Spend some time praying for each other, confessing potential areas of pride and asking for God's help to grow in humility and reliance upon Christ.
