Have someone lead in prayer.
Let’s review: In the first four chapters of the letter to the Galatians Paul was rebuking these believers. What was he rebuking them for?
Beginning in chapter 5, Paul reminds the Galatians they were called to freedom. What did that mean? In what way is Christian freedom a great responsibility?
Read Galatians 6:1-5
Paul exhorts those who are “spiritual” to carry out the ministry of restoring other believers who are in sin or error. What does he mean by “those who are spiritual”? (see Gal 5:22).
What does he mean by “restore” in v. 1? How are we to do this?
Without sharing names, can anyone share an experience of having tried to restore another believer? How did it go, what was the result?
Restoration is to be done in a spirit of “gentleness.” Where did we already see this word in Galatians 5? Why is gentleness needed?
What kind of temptation(s) might we run into when trying to restore another believer?
What is the “law of Christ” mentioned in Gal 6:2? (see Gal 5:14)
Have you ever had (now or in the past) a burden too heavy to carry by yourself? Who helped you at that time or who is helping you?
Personal Reflection: Think about your own sphere of influence, is there someone you can help carry their load? What could you do to help them?
What is the difference between the “burden” in v. 2 and the “load” in v. 5?
Read John 21:15-22
Notice that the particular responsibilities given to Peter (vv. 15-18) differed from what Christ had for John (vv. (vv. 20-22). What do we learn from this?
What responsibility and/or “load” do you think God is calling you to carry at this point in your life?
Read Matthew 11:28-30, how does this ease our load?
Pray for one another
