Safety Alert:
Out of an abundance of caution, I am reaching out to inform you of a deeply concerning and dangerous trend currently circulating on social media platforms, particularly TikTok, known as the "Laptop Fire Challenge." This challenge encourages students to engage in behavior that involves tampering with laptops or other school technology in ways that could cause overheating or even fires.
Let me be clear: this activity is extremely dangerous. It poses serious risks to student safety, school property, and the well-being of our entire school community. Any attempt to participate in this challenge, even as a joke, will not be tolerated.
Students found engaging in this behavior will face immediate and severe disciplinary action, including potential suspension or expulsion. In addition, due to the serious safety hazards involved, law enforcement may be contacted, and students may face criminal charges or civil liability for any resulting damage or harm.
We ask for your partnership in speaking with your child about the dangers of participating in or sharing harmful online trends. Please monitor their social media usage and encourage them to report anything they see or hear that could pose a threat to safety.
