Dear Parents and/or Guardians,

I cannot believe that today is already the last day of January! On February 1, 1865, the U.S. President Abraham Lincoln signed the Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution. The Thirteenth Amendment outlawed slavery in the United States. This day is known as National Freedom Day in its honor. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., once said, “We are not makers of history. We are made by history. Let no man pull you so low to hate him.” During Black History month, we plan to celebrate those individuals that paved the foundation for us to continue to build on. The Black Initiative Club and teachers have planned engaging activities for our young scholars to learn about a mixture of historical and current African American figures making a positive impact on society.
