Dear Parents and/or Guardians,

What a crazy week of weather! I cannot believe that this is the last weekend of January! On February 1, 1865, the U.S. President Abraham Lincoln signed the Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution. The Thirteenth Amendment outlawed slavery in the United States. This day is known as National Freedom Day in its honor. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., once said, “We are not makers of history. We are made by history. Let no man pull you so low to hate him.” During Black History month, we plan to celebrate those individuals that paved the foundation for us to continue to build on. The Black Initiative Club and teachers have planned engaging activities for our young scholars to learn about a mixture of historical and current African American figures making a positive impact on society.

NTI Days:

In the event that NTI is called, it is the student's responsibility to check Google Classroom for their assignments. Teachers have been asked to work with students with technology and internet issues at home on an individual basis. Please reach out to your student's teachers with any questions. Student's work due dates:

NTI Day #4 (Jan. 21st) is due on Wednesday, February 4th.

NTI Day #5 (Jan. 26th), Day #6 (Jan. 27th), Day #7 (Jan. 28th) and Day #8 (Jan. 29th) are due on Friday, February 6th.

However, if school is canceled due to inclement weather, the due dates for these dates will be moved.

Yearbooks:

This is a reminder that the last date to purchase a WHHS 2026 yearbook for $65 is Feb. 1, 2026.

After February 2, 2026, the price increases.
PLEASE, be sure to purchase your Senior a 2026 yearbook.
Many seniors did not buy one in 2025, thinking they could buy one once they came in.
However, we didn't have any leftovers. We can't purchase extras hoping they will sell.

Winter Homecoming:

Winter Homecoming is Saturday, February 21st. It will be held in the new auxiliary gym from 8-11. If your student is bringing a non-Western Hills guest to the dance, please have them turn in a guest form by Wednesday, February 18th . Guest Form

YSC Newsletter:

In case you missed the YSC newsletter that went out earlier this week, here are a couple important messages:

Caps and Gowns needed. If you have a cap and gown from the past few years, please consider donating it to the school for graduates in need.

Senior Prom Assistance: Memorial Baptist Church will be hosting Cinderella's Closet in March. Seniors participating will receive a prom dress, shoes, jewelry and gift bag. Contact Keelie Jolly at keelie.jolly@franklin.kyschools.us if your student needs assistance.

SAT:

Kentucky switched from the ACT to the SAT test over the summer. Some students are feeling a bit anxious about the SAT, so we wanted to share an opportunity for them to take some practice tests. The Kentucky Virtual Library (KYVL) provides College Admissions Test Preparation. There are 8 SAT Practice Math tests and 8 SAT Practice Reading and Writing tests available. Driver License Requirement:

Students needing to fulfill their Graduated Driver Licensing requirement can register for a free class by going to www.kentuckysafedriver.com and clicking on the Alive at 25 link located under Courses or by calling 502/699-2295. The next course is offered on Thursday, February 19th at The Frankfort Christian Academy from 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm. There are several spots left if you need to register your student.
