KY Safe Teen Driving Challenge:
Team Kentucky and The Kentucky Safe Teen Driving Challenge aim is to promote safer driving habits among teens by encouraging responsible behaviors behind the wheel. Rooted in our commitment to protecting lives across our new Kentucky home, this contest provides an engaging way to educate young drivers on the dangers of speeding, phone distractions, and risky maneuvers. Using innovative technology to track and improve driving habits, we’re helping teens build the skills they need to keep themselves, their passengers, and everyone on the road safer. Teens can earn up to $3,000. Registration deadline is April 16th and the scoring period is April 17 - July 17th. Learn more at https://kyhighwaysafety.com/safe-teen-driving-challenge/
Big Smiles Partnership:
We are excited to announce that we have partnered with Big Smiles to offer students access to dental services through the Big Smiles Mobile Dentist. This is a great opportunity for students to receive professional dental care right at school! This event will take place on Thursday, May 7th. To register your student, scan the QR code on the Big Smiles flier. We encourage families to take advantage of this convenient and valuable service. If you have any questions, feel free to contact 502-875-8400 or email Ms. Jolly at keelie.jolly@franklin.kyschools.us. We are also attaching April's YSC Newsletter.
DreamFlight Charities:
DreamFlight Charities is sponsoring an upcoming Discovery Flight Event on April 11th at the Capital City Airport in Frankfort. Please see the DreamFlight Flyer for more details.
Car Rider Safety:
As another reminder, car riders should not be dropped off or picked up in the student or teacher parking lots. This creates an unsafe situation for the car riders as well as student and teacher drivers. We have increased the number of signs in these areas to make it more obvious that it is off limits for student pick up/drop off. We have had traffic accidents due to this area being too congested in the morning and the afternoons, with so many people pulling into or backing out of spaces. The car rider line only takes between 10 and 15 minutes to clear out from WHHS, starting at 3:30 pm. Our SRO will be outside periodically to enforce this policy. Please help us follow these expectations to get everyone where they need to be as quickly and safely as possible. Thank you for your cooperation!
Driver License Requirement:
Students needing to fulfill their Graduated Driver Licensing requirement can register for a free class by going to www.kentuckysafedriver.com and clicking on the Alive at 25 link located under Courses or by calling 502/699-2295. The next course is offered on Thursday, April 23rd at Frankfort Christian Academy from 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm. This is the last class offered in Frankfort for the school year. There are several spots left if you need to register your student.
SAT:
Kentucky switched from the ACT to the SAT test over the summer. Some students are feeling a bit anxious about the SAT, so we wanted to share an opportunity for them to take some practice tests. The Kentucky Virtual Library (KYVL) provides College Admissions Test Preparation. There are 8 SAT Practice Math tests and 8 SAT Practice Reading and Writing tests available. Please see the KYVL flyer for more information. If you have any questions, contact our Library Media Specialist, Rhonda Bell rhonda.bell@franklin.kyschools.us
